DRIVER LICENCE

If you visit us and submit your application for registration of your child’s birth at our counter, we will issue your child’s birth certificate on the same day. (This is applicable ONLY for the applications submitted within one year from the date of child’s birth)

We deliver services listed below in relation to Driver Licence to Sri Lankan citizens / dual citizens in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania:

  1. Renewal of Driver Licence
  2. Issuance of Duplicates of Driver Licence for lost Driver Licence
  3. Change of personal details of Driver Licence
  4. Verification of Names in Driver Licence

REGISTRATION OF BIRTH & CITIZENSHIP OUTSIDE SRI LANKA

If you visit us and submit your application for registration of your child’s birth at our counter, we will issue your child’s birth certificate on the same day. (This is applicable ONLY for the applications submitted within one year from the date of child’s birth)
We are pleased to assist you to register the birth and citizenship of your child under the:
  1. Section 16 or Section 24 of the Birth Registration Act of Sri Lanka, and
  2. Section 5(2) of the Citizenship Act of Sri Lanka.
This is applicable to:

Children born outside Sri Lanka, who are under 22 year of age and whose father and/or mother (at least one parent) was a Sri Lankan citizen or a dual citizen of Sri Lanka at the time of the child’s birth.

If father & mother both have become Australian Citizens at the time of the child’s birth, your child is not eligible for Sri Lankan birth registration. If only one parent had held the Sri Lanka citizenship (or dual citizenship) at the time of the birth of the child, that same parent should be the “declarant” of the birth.

  3. Change of personal details of Driver Licence
  • It is mandatory for applicants to visit the Consulate General to provide biometrics (fingerprints) in submission of application in the presence of an official.
  • It is mandatory to submit the original Driver Licence to the counter (if not LOST) at the time of submission of the application for the above services. After inspection, original Driver Licence will be returned to you. You are required to submit it again for cancellation at the time of issuance of New Driver Lcence.
  • Applications for driver licence verifications can be submitted either at our counter or by post.

Applying via post: Only driver licence verifications permitted to be submitted via post. However, prior to posting the application, the required documents should be certified by a Justice of the Peace, Lawyer, Doctor or Pharmacist with an official stamp. Applicant’s contact number, email address and postal address should be clearly stated in the request letter.

Application Forms

For Renewal, duplicates and change of personal details in your driver licence, you are required to submit “Application for Driver Licence MTA 30/2”.                                                      

Application MTA 30/2 is available only at the Counter of the Consulate General and will be made available to the applicants at the time of the submission of the application.

For Applicants in South Australia, the application will be available at the office of the Honorary Consul and will be provided only at the time of submission of the application.

For Payments at the Counter:

  • Fee for renewal, duplicates or name change: AUD 150
  • Fee for Verification of Name: AUD 64
  • An additional fee of AUD 15 per year will be levied if the Driver Licence is expired (for renewal, duplicates & name change) at the time of submission of the application. However, this will be levied separately for different categories, based on the expiry of each category.
  • Payment must be made at the time of tendering the application, and the receipt kept for reference.
  • Payable by Debit Cards. Tap & Pay facility is not available.
  • Personal/Company cheques, Credit Cards not accepted.
  • All payments are non-refundable.
  • For verification of Driver Licence – fee will NOT be refunded if the verification not approved by the Department of Motor Traffic.
For applicants in South Australia – the relevant fee should be sent by Postal Money Order (Australia Post)/ bank draft drawn in favor of the “Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Melbourne” along with the application certified by the Honorary Consul.  The scanned copy of the receipt will be emailed to the applicant after the application is processed.

Collection of the Birth Certificate

Collection of the Driver Licence

For applications submitted after one year of age of the child, the birth certificate will be issued ONLY after the receipt of the approval from the Registrar General’s Department of Sri Lanka. Upon receipt of this approval, we will send you a draft for proof reading via email, before we print your Child’s Birth Certificate.

Application will be forwarded to the Department of Motor Traffic, Sri Lanka and the arrival of the new licence will be notified to you by email.

It is mandatory to submit your old Driver Licence for cancellation at the time of issuance of your New Driver LIcence.

You do not need to obtain a prior appointment for collection of the licence.  You can collect the new Driver Licence by visiting the Consulate General between 9:15 – 9:30am OR 1:30 – 1:45pm on any working day.  Please check our website for any public holiday closures prior to visiting us.

If you wish to receive your Driver Licence via registered post, please email to mail@slcgmel.org with your name, passport number, application reference number and the postal address. The tracking number will be emailed to you to follow-up.

For collection of new Driver Licence by a third party, you are required to provide the third party with an authorization letter and your old Driver Licence. 

Collection of the Driver Licence Verification Letter

The request for Driver Licence verification will be forwarded to the Department of Motor Traffic, Sri Lanka and approval will be notified by email, upon receipt.

You do not need to obtain a prior appointment for collection. You can collect the verification letter by visiting this office between 9:15 – 9:30am OR 1:30 – 1:45pm on any working day. Please check our website for any public holiday closures prior to visiting us.

A copy of the verification letter will be sent to the relevant Australian authority via email with cc to the applicant.

If you wish to receive the verification letter via registered post, please email to mail@slcgmel.org with your name, passport number, application reference number and the postal address. The tracking number will be emailed to follow-up.

For collection of the verification letter by a third party, you are required to provide the third party with an authorization letter.
